Donate Towards an Extraordinary Project

Embark on a captivating journey into the early 1900s, where winter posed a unique challenge to transportation. Uncover the forgotten treasure that is the snow roller, an extraordinary relic from the past. These ingenious creations, with their iron core and wooden panels, enabled safe travel through heavy snowfall. Pulled by oxen or horses, these snow rollers packed down snow-covered roads, allowing horse-drawn sleighs to glide through winter’s embrace. Unfortunately, very few of these remarkable machines remain today, as they were dismantled during war times for their valuable iron. Now, we need your support to preserve this invaluable piece of our heritage. Help us raise $15,000 for this crucial project, ensuring that the snow roller finds its deserving place within the walls of the Ross Museum. Let’s join forces and revive history, paying tribute to the resilience of those who conquered winter’s snowy challenges.  Information on the Ross Museum Snow Roller.

Visitor Comments

We visit a lot of small Ottawa valley museums. This is likely one of the best. It’s off the beaten path in Foresters Falls Ontario. What sets it apart is the local stories tied to the artifacts. Also, they have stuff we haven’t seen at other places like the “snow roller” that used to flatten fresh snow to make roads better for horses. Loved this place.  Mitch B.  Date of experience: July 2019
